Sentence Improvement Phrases

In most of the competitive examinations, you will find five or ten questions relating to phrase substitution. The method used to attempt the question for Sentence Improvement is a  slightly different from questions of Spotting errors. In question relating to phrase substitution, a sentence is given with a part of it made bold. This part contains some error. The examine is required to located the error and find the correct answer from among the alternatives given. When the alternative has been substituted, the sentence becomes grammatically correct. In the case when no substitution is required, the answer is 'no improvement'.

However, this kind of questions can be attempted only when a person has acquired a strong knowledge of common errors, vocabulary, correct use of phrases and overall comprehension of rules of grammar.

The basic point or the main task is to have good command over the various grammatical rules and notions, in order to secure good marks in such type of questions.

 

Directions :-  Which of the phrase; (a),(b), (c) and (d) given below each sentence, should replace the underlined phrase to make the sentence grammatically correct ? If the sentence is correct as it is, mark (e) as your answer.
